The 30s are remembered for the Great Depression and times were tough for Duininck as well. A job in Northern Minnesota went so poorly that it was difficult to get the money needed to get the equipment home. 1936 was a milestone year for transition. It was Duininck's first truck job and this job started a transition from horses and mules to caterpillars, trucks and elevating graders. The 30s also initiated the cold mix bituminous process for surfacing roads.
